Sydney Stanley
Executive Vice President“It’s really important in a democratic society that we have freedom of information and books historically have been the repository of information. Books and now digital information are important for an informed citizenry. Its what drives me every day,” says Sydney, who not only is a successful publisher but a former librarian.
Sydney has more than 25 years in the book industry, having held a number of leadership positions in public libraries, publishing and media houses and wholesaling and distribution companies. Sydney founded Advantage Publishers Group, acquired by Baker & Taylor in 2007. Sydney oversees what is now called Baker & Taylor Publishing Group, which includes the Silver Dolphin, Thunder Bay, and Portable Press imprints in addition to juvenile and adult proprietary custom publishing for warehouse club customers.
She takes pride in award-winning Silver Dolphin books that teach children — not only through words but also through hands-on activities — to love learning. “Kids have fun while they learn all about early inventors, about science – and much more,” Sydney says. “Parents appreciate the quality and vitality of the books, as well as seeing their kids reading, learning and having fun.”
Sydney earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English from San Diego State University and her Master of Library and Information Sciences degree from the University of Southern California.
Sydney serves on the board of the Lipp Family Foundation, a nonprofit focused on educating youth in mathematics and technology. She is married and enjoys spending time with family in the U.S. and France. She loves Bollywood films and a wide range of books – from fiction to biographies and history to business and economics.
